The 411 on Holiday Travel
Even though the holidays happen every year I feel like we are all always booking flights at the last minute, paying a fortune, and then standing in overcrowded airports on oversold planes.
But what if I told you you could book at the perfect time, get the best deal, maybe even use points instead of cash for flights, and make it an actually seamless process?
Here are my top tips for booking holiday travel:
According to past data, there are certain days of the year that are the least expensive days to book for holiday travel:
October 11th (yes, today!): Lowest predicted day to book Thanksgiving travel
October 27th: Lowest predicted day to book Christmas travel
Certain credit cards (such as AMEX and BILT) will give you a transfer bonus & more bang for your buck.
A transfer bonus is when you move your Credit Card Points to an airline partner but instead of transferring at a 1:1 ratio, a transfer bonus lets you convert your points at a higher rate.
This is the best bang for your buck way to book a flight!
The busiest travel days of the year are the Tuesday and Wednesday before and the Sunday after Thanksgiving, as well as the Sunday and Monday before Christmas.
Using an extra day or two of PTO is often worth it in my book to:
a) spend less money on your flight and
b) avoid the busiest days of the year at the airport.
